Welcome to my apothecary
After all of the constant absorption of information, I find myself with the need to create. Creating something is my form of exhaling. This inspired me to get active, play with herbs on Instagram LIVE.
Tinctures are concentrated herbal extracts that have alcohol as the solvent. -Mountain Rose Herbs
They are convenient ways to incorporate herbs into your daily life. Tinctures are packaged in a dropper bottle, so all you have to do is put some drops in your morning coffee, tea, shakes, or directly on your tongue.
I have made tinctures in the past, but it is not my specialty. I prefer to buy tinctures from other small businesses, and herbalists that have mastered the art of making tinctures. They have figured out the herb to alcohol ratios for a consistent dosage. Besides, Alcohol is expensive.
I highly recommended Feather Catcher Apothecary herbal tinctures, and Remedy garden CBD tinctures!
Ingredients:
Whole Grain Alcohol 190 proof
Dried herbs-
Echinacea
Elderflower
Mullein
Glass jar
Wax paper sheet
Spoon
Pour desired herbs in a mason jar. Fill the jar ⅔ full with dried herbs, then pour in the alcohol. You can use alcohol as low as 80 proof. Check out Mountain Rose Herbs blog for the differences in alcohol % and step by step details.
Once the jar was filled to the top with alcohol, Put a sheet of wax paper then put the lid on. The wax paper will prevent corrosion.
This last step is the most important, LABEL the jar including ingredients and date! Then put the jar in a dark, dry, cool place for 6-8 weeks. Don’t forget to shake up the jar a few times a week
*Before working with any herb, please do your research. Make sure your medication will not be affected by any of the herbs you are using.*
