About

The human body’s capability to heal and grow has always interested me. As a Puerto Rican, I understand the power of Mother Nature. My family has been taught throughout generations to respect and be grateful for nature, as it is where our medicine comes from.

One of the first people to introduce me to natural medicines was my grandpa. He was a doctor with his own private practice. At his home in Puerto Rico, he would teach me about the medicine in teas, using the Guanabana (Soursop) tree in his backyard. Chamomile was always on hand if we ever felt sick, had a stomach ache or were dealing with stress. He believed in the medicinal powers of nature and the effectiveness they had for his patients.

Growing up with a younger sister with Cerebral Palsy, I wanted to understand the human body, so that I could better understand her. I would attend my sister’s occupational therapy sessions where her therapist would teach me exercises to help my sister. I remember admiring how huge of an impact these therapists and their exercises could have on someone and it fueled my passion to want to learn more.

In 2009, I attended Eastern Michigan University  where I was able to learn more about our bodies and how grateful we should be. I quickly learned that with our bodies, also comes the mind. The mind fascinated me because it controls our bodies, but we never see it. I studied meditation, mindfulness and progressive relaxation. Through practical application, using new scientific data and old techniques with herbal remedies, I developed effective methods for relieving everyday stressors and pains. This led to my BA in Psychology.

Out of college, with all my knowledge and expertise on how plants could heal our mind and body, I found myself taking a manager position at a medical marijuana provision center in Ann Arbor. While there, I became very knowledgeable on CBD, terpenes, aromatherapy and chronic pain management. I was able to apply my knowledge and passion to real people and witness their quality of life improve.

I found inspiration when working with herbs and it fueled my creativity to start Gwendolyn’s Botánica in 2018. Offering my own natural herbal remedies made for our bodies, using organic ethical herbal ingredients in an eco friendly way. It is important to me that my products are not only beneficial for our bodies, but for our planet as a whole.
